More scripts ordered for Worst Week

CBS wants more goodball humor from its new slapstick comedy, but bumps it for Gary Unmarried

CBS' Worst Week had a pretty darned fine day yesterday in the form of a vote of confidence from the entity that signs its paychecks. The network made its first move towards picking up the new comedy for a full season by ordering two more scripts, according to Variety.

Worst Week came into this season the heavy favorite to get renewed for new comedies, riding a wave of positive buzz and hearty pats on the back from CBS (we didn't agree). Unfortunately once it made it to air, it didn't seem to take like CBS thought it would.

Blessed with a spot in CBS' laugh-centric Monday night right behind the perplexingly successful Two and a Half Men, Worst Week hasn't pulled in the numbers it's supposed to, losing a fair chunk (about a third) of Men's audience, but still grabbing more than 9 million viewers. However, with CBS' benchmark so high, it has disappointed execs.

Worst Week stars Kyle Bornheimer as a guy who just can't seem to get anything to go his way. As he struggles to win the approval of his fiancée's parents (the awesome Kurtwood Smith and Nancy Lenehan), he ends up digging himself into a bigger hole thanks to misunderstandings, klutzy missteps, and urinating on his future mother-in-law's dinner. Classy stuff!

While yesterday was good for Worst Week, today…not so much. CBS is pulling the old switcheroo with its Wednesday night comedy Gary Unmarried. Gary, starring Jay Mohr as a divorced dad moving on with his life, had its best night yesterday, and CBS apparently wants to see how it does on Monday after Two and a Half Men.

But Worst Week fans don't fret too much; CBS was originally planning to air a repeat.

It sounds like CBS is getting ready to make a decision on Worst Week very soon, for better or for worse. Our money is on a full-season pickup if CBS can find a spot for it.

So what will happen? Will CBS going to order a full season of Worst Week? What do you think? Do you like this show? If the decision was in your hands, what would you do? Share here your opinion.
